"EQUIPPING and EVANGELISTIC MINISTRIES"
The command to multiply has existed since God
created the first man and wife. The special privilege we have on
earth is to enter into His work. In union with Christ, we as His
bride are also privileged to join in His work. We can introduce
people to Jesus Christ who gives spiritual life to those who are
dead in sin. All those born of the Spirit are to give witness of
the Good News. The skills of soul winning can be sharpened. There
is work for all in the joyful enterprise of evangelism.
Calvary Bible Church as a body of believers fulfills our
commitment to our Lord and Savior by worship, praise, prayer and
many ministries designed to spread the word of Christ and grow
each individual in his belief and commitment.
Our church sponsored ministries are:
Small Groups
As modeled in Act 2:42, individual spiritual grow and maturity in Christ is
important to the life of any church. We believe that small groups will
allow individuals to grow in a caring and supportive environment as they seek to
walk closer with the Lord on a day-by-day basis. Small groups allow for
personal discipleship and accountability opportunities not normally found in
large gatherings. The small groups also provide an opportunity to bring
friends and acquaintances, that might not otherwise come to a church service.
Bible Studies and
Fellowship for Men
Men have clearly defined responsibilities and privileges in the
body of Christ. 'For men only' activities in the men's ministry
encourage them to prepare and enter into the life and work of the
church where each has an unique place. The headship assigned to
men is a sobering responsibility. Only the power of the Holy
Spirit enables a man to properly perform this duty. All need the
corporate encouragement and support of one another.
Bible Studies for Ladies
Noble women attended the Lord Jesus while He was here on earth.
Throughout the scripture women are mentioned who were faithfully
dedicated to God. Godly women use their special abilities within
the body of Christ to serve as no others can. By their unique
gifts women complete the ministry of the manifold grace of God.
The women's ministry encourages women in their preparation and
discovery of their individual place in this great enterprise.
Awana
"Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" II Tim. 2:15
Awana is a Christian club for boys and girls from 3 years of age
through high school. Awana meets on Wednesday evenings (August-May) from 6:25
to 8:00 PM. Awana is a varied, fast-paced program which includes
uniforms, awards, devotions, games, and Bible memorization. It is
an activity for not only our Calvary children, but their friends
and the community. The goal of Awana is to help kids come to know, love and
serve the Lord Jesus Christ. Highlights during the year include a fair,
competition with other churches in AwanaGames and Bible Quizzing, a Grand Prix
pine wood derby event, and a variety of "special night"
events determined by the individual age groups. Awana activities
take place on Wednesday nights during the school year. Most
Awana special events take place on Saturdays.

Calvary Bible Christian
School
Calvary Bible Christian School (CBCS) is a ministry which provides
support to families of Calvary Bible Church and other believers who are home schooling their children. This ministry is
operated as a part of the total Christian education program of
the church. Since the role of Christian education in its broadest
sense is to "...build up each one in Christ...," the
school endeavors to encourage and help the parents and students
to integrate their faith and knowledge of the Word of God in the
studying of whatever subject is at hand and in their lives. This
is accomplished by providing home schooling families with
fellowship, accountability, information on curriculum sources,
field trips, and counseling on teaching and accreditation issues.
Choir, Worship Team, and
Praising the Lord with Music
Through the words of biblical poetry set to music we learn and recall all the
precious treasures we have in the scriptures. Music is designed to encourage and
assist the membership in worship. Through the voices and instruments joyful
sounds lift up the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Teaching, training, planning,
and adapting the wealth of material and equipment available provide many areas
of spiritual service. God has given special abilities in the membership for this
work. These Music Ministries include: Sanctuary choir, Worship Team, and
children's choir.
Christian Education
Biblical literacy is foundational to a successful Christian life.
The Sunday School gives appropriate teaching from the nursery to
the most senior. Those employed in this ministry use a variety of
spiritual abilities in the teaching process. Other educational
and training mechanisms are also used in helping people to grow
in grace and knowledge. Mid-week hands-on youth activities,
seminars, Bible studies, libraries of books, videos, audios, and
other means of learning provide opportunities for members to
serve in many capacities appropriate to their gifts.
Fabulous Fifties
Fabulous Fifties is an outreach ministry for those over the age
of fifty. The group seeks to create a genuine friendship base
through Christian Fellowship. The ministry uses food and fun to
bring people together into a caring fellowship which ministers to
its members and reaches out to others in the church and the
community. Fabulous Fifties meets each third Friday evening at 6:30
p.m. for food, fellowship, and entertainment. The group attends a
number of cultural and patriotic events in the area as well as makes trips together.
Library
It is the purpose of Calvary Bible Church to bring honor and
glory to the Lord Jesus Christ through the salvation of souls and
the edifying of believers in the Word of God. Therefore, the
Calvary Bible Church Library makes available to our Congregation
a variety of interesting and challenging Christian books,
literature, audio tapes and video tapes which encourage them in
their daily walk with God.
Christian literature brings the ministry of the Church right into
the home and the leisure hours. Good books on Bible study,
doctrine, inspiration, missions and the example of Christian
living (biography and novels) extend the ministry many times
beyond that which personal contact with the pastor or other
leaders is able to do. Eyes have been opened, hearts melted, and
life-changing decisions made over the pages of Christian books.
Calvary Bible Church is eager to introduce its people to books
that will enrich their individual lives and in turn benefit the
entire Church and the cause of Christ.
The Calvary Bible Church Library not only serves as a learning
center but is also a valuable resource center for the entire
Church. There is ample evidence that the use of Church Library
materials promotes spiritual development of individuals, families
and Church groups. Because of its valuable services, the Church
Library is regularly supported in terms of prayer, space,
personnel and finances. The Library ministry is an essential
service organization to the entire Church.
The Church Library is operated by volunteers and therefore open only during
certain time periods on
Sunday morning and
Wednesday evening.
Missions
The spiritual needs of the world have been in the heart of the
church since its beginning. Obedience to the Great Commission
requires each of us, "as we are going," to make
disciples- - - no matter what our vocation. However, for the
whole world to hear the Good News some must be "sent".
The missions activities focus on the latter. The selection of
candidate missionaries, mission agencies, finance development,
information, promotion, and many other facets require the work of
those whose special gifts equip them for this service. Many serve
the Lord in this way.
Each year, usually in November, a Missions Conference is held to
bring to the church body five to seven missionaries and their
families for a report on their work on the mission field. This
builds personal relationship among the missionaries and members
of the church. During the Annual Missions Conference a special
emphasis is planned for the children with the goal of making
world missions an exciting reality. It is also a chance for our
children to consider the possibilities of missions for themselves.
Radio Ministry
The radio ministry of Calvary Bible Church began approximately in
1969 with the broadcast of the Sunday morning worship service,
live from the auditorium of the church. The broadcast is an outreach
ministry of Calvary to the area. It is a service to the sick and homebound
members and nonmembers alike. A trained crew of volunteers under the direction
of the Deacon board handles the controls for the broadcast. For about 30 years the service was
broadcast over WNDA 95.1 FM. After WNDA left the air, our service was
tape-delay broadcast over WTKI AM 1450 (a.k.a WHOH, ESPN2) at noon.
Unfortunately, after about July 2003, ESPN2 pre-empted our broadcast on Sundays.
From then until 12/31/2006 we broadcast on WBHP AM 1230 & WHOS AM 800
(Decatur) at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. Presently we are not broadcasting on
the radio, but the sermon audio and notes are posted
on this web site (Jump to Sermons).
CD copies of the Sunday Morning sermons are available from
the church office at a nominal cost.
Singles / College / Career
As our youth are passing into adulthood with preparation for marriage and
career, they are in great need of counsel and encouragement. Their interest in
success for their home and their work often distracts them from the more
important dedication to a lifetime of service to Christ. Much can be done to
transfer wisdom and experience in both these areas as maturing Christians meet
their needs. Service to Christ here brings peer encouragement among the singles
and valuable transfer of treasured knowledge to hasten the growth and avoid the
costly errors so common.
Wednesday Night Prayer
Service
The Wednesday prayer/share time is the church-wide "hour-of-prayer"
for all. This hour is designed to undergird all the ministries of
the church as they seek to fulfill the work Jesus has commanded.
Participation by all members not serving elsewhere during that time
is the desire and need of the church. All the excitement and joy
promised to the church can be experienced, but only if God's
people humble themselves and pray and seek His face.
Youth
The purpose of the youth ministry of Calvary Bible Church is
twofold. First, we seek to edify, build up, and encourage the
personal spiritual growth of those teens who are Christians. We
attempt to accomplish this first task through ongoing Bible
study, small-group mentoring, Awana 24/7, monthly social
events, and seasonal retreats.
Recognizing that Christian parents carry the primary
responsibility in disciplining their teenagers, we seek to
strengthen, fortify, and equip the parent-teen relationship for
success. Second, outreach to the unchurched teenager is a matter
of obedience to our Lord's command to share the gospel. We seek
to accomplish this task through a penetrative witness into the
schools, personal invitations to attend our "Depot"
events, and direct presentation of the gospel as the Holy Spirit
leads us. In all things, the youth ministry seeks to glorify God
in all that we do.
All youth leaders, chaperones, and helpers are screened before being allowed to
work with our youth.
